First Day of Spring!

Spring started at 2:37 this afternoon and although I know that the calender means NOTHING in Newfoundland, it’s still very uplifting to know that winter has ended…officially at least. There’s more snow in the forecast for Sunday and Monday, but I’m going to live in my fantasy world until then.

After this most horrendous winter, I now know how the Munchkins felt when the house landed on the Wicked Witch of the West. I almost ran down the street singing “Ding Dong the Winter is Over”. Adding to my bliss today was the beautiful sunshine and temperatures hovering around freezing…you have to understand, after the past few weeks of frigid temperatures the freezing mark feels balmy.

Thanks to southern exposure and the City’s efforts in snow removal, the massive snowbank that took up residence in front of my house is now completely gone.

There remains a small pile of snow in front of the garage door, a physical reminder of the fact that it’s still too early to take the bikes out. At least, it’s too early for me. The same can’t be said for the other member of this household.

Mark took this picture after he got home from a short ride this evening.

As for the back yard, I think this snow will be with us until May 24 weekend at least. Actually that’s fine, that only means I won’t have to clean it up for awhile. The yard became a depository for all kinds of things when we were renovating the bathroom and if memory serves, there’s a bathtub out there somewhere.

Here’s to longer, warmer days ahead!

  1. The Spring Equinox brought snow flurries to Kingston. This winter is obviously the start of an ice age, so maybe we should sell our motorcycles or trade them for snowmobiles.
